Impaired Water Absorption
When you eat or drink sugar you’ll exceed the body’s physiological limit of 4 grams in the bloodstream. This puts a lot of sugar in the blood and causes your body to dehydrate itself by making water move out of cells.
When we eat sugar/carbs we are raising our blood sugar beyond homeostatic levels. This causes our body to go into action and work to restore homeostasis. The Osmotic Effect is what’s in play here as when there’s too much sugar in the bloodstream, water will be pulled from the bloodstream into the intestines to dilute the sugar. This will contribute to dehydration.
Your urine production will also be increased, which is another side effect of eating sugar and raising your blood sugar. The kidneys will filter out excess sugar through urine leading to more water loss.
Please avoid electrolyte drinks they are completely unnecessary and will contribute to dehydration actually. In our ancestral history, we were not walking around carrying salt shakers or sprinkling rocks on our food. We’ll get all the minerals we need by eating meat, that’s what food is supposed to do, nourish and supply you with everything you need. Salt water has a ton of minerals but that’ll overload your kidneys and lead to damage/death. Purifying our water removes minerals, leading to a better taste and less stress on our kidneys.
Avoid milk, fruit juice, sports drinks and all other sugary drinks. It doesn’t matter how natural the sugar is, it doesn’t align with our biology for the reasons I’ve stated. There seems to be some cult following around drinking milk but these will also be the same people that end up saying they’re dealing with brain fog or gained a lot of weight or that the diet didn’t work for them but we’ll save the milk topic for another day.
All in all, it is imperative not only that you stop eating sugar but that you stop drinking it as well. Even if it says 0 sugar it’s really not. If it’s not water it’s some concoction of chemicals and artificial sweeteners which are both not evolutionary appropriate either and will lead to problems. Sugary drinks impair your body’s ability to absorb water, the substance that nature provides all around us on earth. Don’t get addicted and dehydrated by these faulty drinks, stick to water. Nothing hydrates you better than purified water.
