Is cholesterol harmful?
No Cholesterol is not at all harmful. If you’re on Twitter and in carnivore/keto/low-carb circles you’ll see quite often the long list of what cholesterol does but I’ll reiterate some of the many things here.
It makes up every cell in the body forming membranes around them.
It protects the brain from glycation's damaging effects and is a powerful antioxidant.
It’s a precursor for making hormones like estrogen—androgens and vitamin D, which is an important fat-soluble antioxidant.
The brain is actually the most cholesterol-rich organ in the body making up 25% of the total cholesterol.
So basically limiting your cholesterol or animal fat or meat in any way is setting yourself up for failure as cholesterol is not the cause of clogged arteries. It isn’t even the main substance found in clogged arteries, that would be fibrous plaque which makes up around 70% of clogged arteries.
Cholesterol is actually vital in artery repair so restricting your cholesterol is really a no-win game. It does not harm you and it has never killed any human. It’s all lies.
